Grant on the Purchase of Household Appliances for Domestic Use Certified as Being Efficient in the Use of Energy

 

  What does the energy efficient appliances scheme consist of?

   How can I apply for a grant on the purchase of an energy efficient household appliance?

   Which retailers are registered with the Malta Resources Authority for participation in the scheme?

   Which models are eligible for participation in the scheme?

   If I am a retailer, how can I register with the Malta Resources Authority?

Note:  This scheme is being terminated as from 6 July 2008 in accordance with Government Notice No. 341 of 2008 as subsequently amended by Government Notice No. 406 of 2008

 

The Ministry for Finance has further directed that, by way of a transition period in the winding down of the scheme for rebates in respect of energy efficient appliances for domestic purposes,  the scheme will apply to contracts of sale that are entered into up to the termination date of the scheme.

 

In such cases, applications, apart from the normal conditionalities, qualify for rebate, provided that:

- the application for the rebate has been received by the MRA not later than 30 June 2009;

- the application includes original fiscal receipts covering the full cost of the appliance; and

- applicant submits an original  invoice or sales order, together with the original fiscal receipt for the deposit for first instalment, all dated before date of termination of the scheme

 

What does the energy efficient appliances scheme consist of?

Following what was announced in the Budget Speech for 2007, Government has launched a scheme for grants on the purchase of household appliances for domestic use certified as being efficient in the use and consumption of energy.

This scheme came into effect from 1st November 2006 as follows:

Appliances Category 20% of selling price with a maximum grant of 
Dishwashers A € 58.23 (Lm25)
Refrigerators, Freezers or Combinations A  Tropical € 116.47 (Lm50)
A+   Subtropical € 116.47 (Lm50)

A  Subtropical

(till 31st March 2007)

€ 58.23 (Lm25)
Washing Machines A € 58.23 (Lm25)
Tumble Dryers A € 58.23 (Lm25)
Air Conditioning Units A € 58.23 (Lm25)

 

How can I apply for a grant on the purchase of an energy efficient household appliance?

Applications for the grant are to be submitted by the applicant within 3 months from the date of purchase of the appliance

In applying for the grant, it is necessary that the following documentation is submitted to the Malta Resources Authority:

  • Application form duly filled in with full details;

  • Original fiscal receipt;

  • Copy of the invoice

  • Copy of the product label or fiche.

Only those applications that are found to conform with all the provisions of this scheme shall be eligible for
payment of the grant. The application should be received within 3 months of the date on  the last fiscal receipt.

It is advisable that you check that the retailer is registered with the Malta Resources Authority for participation in this scheme (link) and that the model being purchased is eligible for the grant. (link

PR 0652  - Statement by the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and Investment on the Energy Efficient Appliances Rebate

 

Government has directed the MRA to, up to the 31 December 2007, accept a copy of the VAT receipt in cases where the original cannot be provided, upon submission of:

     1. A signed declaration (Download sample pdf) from the supplier that the copy of the fiscal receipt being submitted is a true copy of the original fiscal receipt.

     2. A sworn or solemn declaration  (Download sample pdf) giving the reason why the original fiscal receipt was not submitted and that such an original fiscal receipt was never and will never be used directly or indirectly in any way for the purpose of applying for any refund/s or grant/s from government. This has to be sworn in front of a Commissioner for Oaths.

These declarations are to contain all the details requested in the specimen declarations. Such applications will be considered on a case by case basis and will have to be approved by the Ministry for Finance. No applications received after the 31 December 2007 without an original fiscal receipt will be accepted.
